Prices for Hikes & Nature Walks

How does pricing work?

The cost of Maine Nature Hikes trips varies depending on activity, location, and how many people are in your group. Remember: During the hike, you’ll learn about local flora and fauna, history, and geology. These are interpretive hikes, meaning they’re designed to be a fun and safe learning experience. Your guide is a Registered Maine Guide, lifelong Mainer, outdoor journalist and outdoor TV show host!

Extras!

We enjoy providing lunch, snacks, and drinks for our hikers, but we understand that some prefer to bring their own food and drink. When making your reservation, we ask you what you prefer. We always offer a Maine-themed, homemade snack and drinks for free, and we adjust our snacks for hiker diets, allergies, and preferences. A full lunch is an extra $30 per person.

Free extra gear!

We want you to be as safe and comfortable as possible, and we understand that not every traveler is able to bring a backpack, lunchbox or hiking poles — that’s why we provide those for free! We also outfit each hiker with a mini survival kit that includes a few essentials (as small as a Ziplock bag). Just be sure to give them back at the end of the hike!

Hiking Trip Prices

Acadia National Park & surrounding area

For groups of 1-4 people, the price remains the same:

  • $350 for half day (4 hours)

  • $600 for full day (7-8 hours)

*This is for the whole group, not per person

*This price can include transportation! (For example picking you up at your hotel and driving you into the park.)

For groups of 5-6 people (my maximum), the price is:

  • $400 for half day (4 hours)

  • $700 for full day (7-8 hours)

*You will need to drive a second vehicle to the trailhead. We can only transport 4 people at this time!

If you are booking as guests of The Claremont Hotel or The Asticou Hotel, the cost for private tours and nature walks vary. Call Claremont Reservations and Guest Services at 207-244-5036 for details. Those tours include hotel-provided snacks and lunches, comfortable transportation and convenient pick up and drop off.

Full day hikes throughout Maine

Many of these hikes can take up to 10 hours — whatever it takes, we’ll get it done! No extra cost for taking our time. However, if your guide needs to camp out at the location the night before in order to start at a reasonable time (Maine is a big state), a half-day fee of $350 will be added to the cost.

  • 1:1 client-guide ratio: $800 for full day

  • 2:1 client-guide ratio: $400 for full day

  • 3:1 client-guide ratio: $300 for full day

  • 4:1 client-guide ratio: $250 for full day

  • 5:1 client-guide ratio: $225 for full day

  • 6:1 client-guide ratio: $200 for full day

At this time, we can only transport up to 4 people to the trailhead. If your group is larger than 4, you will need to follow your guide with a vehicle. If this hike is in Baxter State Park, non-residents will be required to pay a gate pass for their vehicle.

*This pricing includes rental backpacks, hiking poles and minimal survival gear (such as a headlamp, waterproof matches, and an emergency blanket).

Katahdin, Maine’s tallest mountain

Katahdin is arguably Maine’s most challenging hike, and it’s a wonderful experience. The climb could take 12-14 hours.

Pricing is the same as above, plus $350 for the guide to camp the night before. This includes parking reservations, transportation into the park, snacks and a special drink — and of course a full day being guided up and down the mountain! (You must bring additional snacks, lunch and water for yourself unless you arrange for us to provide this for an additional fee of $30 per person.)

If you want to hike Katahdin, we advise that you make your reservation with us months ahead of time so we have a better chance of reserving a parking spot at the trailhead. Katahdin trailheads fill up quickly from mid-June to September. If you want to hike the mountain in September or October, we may be able to reserve a spot with shorter notice. We can always try!

Refund/Cancelation Policy

RESERVATION FEE: Upon reserving the date, you must pay a 20 percent reservation fee that is nonrefundable except due to inclement weather that makes the hike dangerous. In that case, you receive a full refund, minus processing fees.

FULL AMOUNT: The remaining amount for the guided hike is due the day of the hike, prior to hitting the trail!

REFUND: Say you pay the full amount or even part of it early: If you cancel your hike for any reason, you will be refunded any amount you’ve paid that’s greater than the 20 percent reservation fee. We keep the 20 percent reservation fee.
